Let the Dead Bury the dead: Old Business
Another reason for this saying is again answered by culture. The Jews, in the time of Christ, buried their loved ones and went into mourning for seven days. After that, they mourned for another year. After the year was up, the grave was opened and the bones were buried again. When the disciple said, I have to bury my father, he may have referred to this second burial. Now, why do we always put off the will of God for old business. We go digging in our lives for a moot point and chase it all our lives. We go around the mulberry bush over old stuff that should not even be a issue. You can't make progress digging up bones.
